I obtained a PhD in Condensed Matter Theory working with Matteo Marsili at SISSA (Trieste, Italy) in 2001, and did post-doctoral work at HMI-Berlin (now the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin) and at Istituto Nazionale per la Fisica della Materia (INFM) in Rome. Since 2005, I have been a Research Scientist at INFM (2005-10) and then at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, where I am currently part of the Soft & Living Matter Lab of the Insitute of Nanotechnology (NANOTEC). I am also an Adjunct Professor at Sapienza University's Physics Department since 2010. Since August 2015, I am on leave at the Human Genetics Foundation in Turin (Italy).
In general terms, my research probes the interface between statistical physics and biology. At present, I would especially like to understand more about the modes of action of regulatory small RNAs, the metabolic and regulatory origins of cellular growth strategies, and the functional roles of cell-to-cell variability. In the past, I have worked on the statistical mechanics of games with learning and economic systems.
