Course syllabus

 

No Propaedeutic course is needed, previous basic knowledge of EU law or Western European History or History of International Relations may help  

 

This course taught in the English language in the framework of “European Studies LM/90” is aimed at providing Italian or foreign students with a comprehensive exploration of the history, institutions, and politics of European integration since 1945.
The rationale of this course is to focus on the (political) actors, theories of integration and the resulting European treaties that shaped the European institutions.
Therefore, every module shall illustrate:
1) actors and political thought behind integration strategies;
2) treaties that resulted from negotiation and agreement between the Member States;
3) the European institutions established by the relevant Treaty.

SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON THE EXAMS

 

Only for academic year 2023/2024

Considering the special conditions of the second semester course in 2023/24:

 

For regular LM-90 students only one question will be asked, the second question is optional.

 

For Erasmus students only one topic is required for the Essay (words requirement is reduced to 1,000 words). The procedure is as usual: the topic shall be agreed well in advance (at least two weeks before the official day of the exam) and the deadline for sending the Essay is as always7 days before the exam day. 

 

For regular LM-90 students:

 

Exam session: oral exam, two questions (equal weight: 50% each, to pass the exam) for each student to assess knowledge of the History of EU integration, its main actors, historic events, and the relevant Treaties and institutions established as taught during classes.

 

For Erasmus exchange students

 

These categories of students may sit the regular exam or may opt for writing an Essay on two topics agreed with the exam commission. In this case, the essay has a requirement of 2,000 words, and shall be sent by email one week (7 days) before the day of the exam. The student may be required to defend the Essay on the day of the exam.
