* Visiting researcher at the Istituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC), Tenerife (Spain, 1989).

* Member of the Scientific Council of the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics (2001-2003).
* Director of the Teramo Observatory - Italian National Institute of Astrophysics (2005-2011).
* Member of the Spanish Time Allocation Committee (CAT) for the Canarian telescope consortium (2004-2005).
* Member of the ESO panel for the Observational Program Committee (OPC) (2010).
* Chair of the Italian Time Allocation Committee (TAC) for the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT) and the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG) (2014-2017).

Research projects and publications:
* Scientifc PI of AMICA (Antartic Multiband Infrared CAmera).
* Proponent of the LUNA MV (Laboratory for Underground Nuclear Astrophysics, a new 3.5 MV accelerator - progetto PREMIALE INFN.
* Coordinator of various research units under several PRIN-MIUR and PRIN-INAF approved projects.
* Author of more than 400 scientific papers (170 on referred journals, source: NASA-ADS).
