Luca Masini graduated from Sapienza University in 2006, where he also obtained his PhD in Geotechnical Engineering in 2010. During his PhD, he joined the research groups at the University of Cambridge (UK) and at the Deltares (NL) where he carried out an experimental study on compensation grouting as a mitigation technique for the effects induced by tunnelling and deep excavation. From 2011 to 2016 he has been Post-Doc fellow at Sapienza University of Rome, where he also worked as a Research Fellow from 2017 to 2020. He is an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) at the DISG - Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome. His research interests include the mitigation of the effects induced by tunnelling and deep excavations in densely urbanised areas and the seismic behaviour of earth dams and geosynthetic-reinforced earth retaining structures. He serves as a reviewer for several international journals in geotechnics. He has been recently appointed President of the Geotechnical Commission of the Engineering Council of Rome.
