Work Experience
From December 2010: Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. The research is focused on the development of Lab- on-Chip systems functionalized with novel nanomaterials to achieve:
• Point-of-care devices (POC) for applications in the field of health-care (diagnosis of celiac disease and metabolic disorders such as diabetes and hypercholesterolemia) and food quality control (dosing mycotoxins in food and beverages).
• Microreactors for performing the DNA polymer chain reaction (PCR) for biosensing applications, and the SELEX process for discovering novel aptamer types.
• From September 2015 teaching ‘Macromolecular Structures” (chemistry of peptides, nucleic acids, sugars and lipids) for the master degree in Nanotechnology Engineering (Sapienza University of Rome).
August 2009 – December 2010: Chemist at the Department of Bioimaging PET-CT at Cattolica University (Rome, Italy) for MEDIPASS s.p.a.. Main tasks: synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals for PET applications, quality control and validation of analytical methods.
Education and Training
February 2005-June 2009: PhD student at Supramolecular Chemistry and Technology (SMCT) and Molecular Nanofabrication (MnF) groups (Http://mnf.tnw.utwente.nl, Enschede, The Netherlands). Thesis Title: “Supported organic, NanoMetallic and Enzymatic catalysis in Microreactors”.The PhD research was focused on the study (bio)chemical reactions in microreactors. Organic and metallic catalysts, and enzymes were immobilized on the surface interior of microchannels by using polymer-based materials. Several organic syntheses were performed and tested in the microreactors.
July 2004-December 2004: Internship at Pepscam System B.V. (www.pepscan.nl Lelystad, The Netherlands). The Research was focused on the synthesis of organic compounds for medicinal chemistry.
November 2003-May 2004: Internship at Pharmacy “Al Sacro Cuore” (Bologna Italy) for attending the qualification exam for the pharmacist profession.
November 2003-May 2004: Internship at the Biochemistry Department of Bologna University (Bologna, Italy). The research was focused on the study of the mono/ polyunsaturated residues isomerization of phospholipids in cellular membranes (in vivo and in vitro) as a novel path of membrane damage.
September 1996-October 2003: Master Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (CTF), University of Bologna (Bologna, Italy).
During the undergraduate period the research was focused on the chemistry of the fatty acids. Master Thesis Title: "cis-trans isomers of unsaturated fatty acids in rat tissues" (Department of Biochemistry, Bologna, Italy).
