November 2001- October 2005 Ph.D. student in Hematological Sciences, Department of Cellular Biotechnologies and Hematology, Sapienza University of Rome (Prof. R. Foa ). During this period, works at the Academic Department of Haematology and Cytogenetics (Prof. Daniel Catovsky, Dr. Estella Matutes) at the Royal Marsden Hospital/Institute of Cancer Research (London) (May 2002-December 2004), developing a research project on the diagnosis of chronic lymphoproliferative disorders integrating morphology, flow cytometry, histopathology, FISH; works also with outpatients affected by chronic lymphocytic leukemia, hairy cell leukemia and other chronic lymphoproliferative disorders.

2000-2001 Works as Hematologist in the Pediatric Hematology Unit and Day-Hospital, Department of Cellular Biotechnologies and Hematology, Sapienza University of Rome.

February-May 1998 Attends for a clinical stage the St Jude Children Research Hospital of Memphis (Tennessee-USA), Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit (Dr. L. Bowman) and Pediatric Hematology Unit (Dr. C.H. Pui).

1996-2000 Works as Resident in Hematology in the Department of Cellular Biotechnologies and Hematology, Sapienza University of Rome (Prof F. Mandelli), in the Pediatric Unit with children affected by acute leukemias and non-Hodgkin lymphomas, receiving chemotherapy and bone marrow transplantation.

RESEARCH ACTIVITY
Design of translational research programs on prognostic and predictive markers of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Cell morphology, immunophenotype, minimal residual disease (MRD).
At present:
i) mechanisms of resistance and clonal evolution in chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients treated with B-cell receptor (BCR) and BCL2 inhibitors; ii) predictive markers of response to B-cell receptor (BCR) and BCL2 inhibitors in chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients; iii) MRD as a tool to personalize treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphomas; iv) biology of chronic lymphocytic leukemia with indolent course.

Member of the past project Special Program Molecular Clinical Oncology 5x1000 AIRC n.° 10007 Genetics-driven targeted management of lymphoid malignancies (P.I. Prof R. Foà), following studies on next generation sequencing e copy number aberrations of lymphoproliferative disorders.
