Biographical notes and main career steps. Born in Foggia, December 6, 1952. Degree with honors in Electrical Engineering at University of Bologna in 1976. Researcher in 1980; Associate Professor in 1987at University of L Aquila; Full Professor of Electrical Power Systems in 2000 at Sapienza - University of Rome.
Teaching. At the Faculty of Engineering of the University of L Aquila: High voltages technique 1987-1989; Electric traction 1988-1991. At the Faculty of Engineering of the Sapienza University of Roma: Electrical power systems for transportation since 1990 to date; Railway electrification for the Master Course on Engineering of Infrastructures and Systems for Railways" since 2008 to 2011.
Research. Main topics: Innovative soft computing and artificial intelligence techniques for power systems analysis, with reference to reactive power and voltage control in power systems; transmission and distribution planning; power systems for railway and metro-transit transport; power quality, electromagnetic compatibility issues and costs in industrial plants, railway and metro-transit systems, residential and commercial applications; IEEE Std. 519-92 and IEC 61000 analysis. Management of electrical loads, with reference to forecasting in metropolitan areas; residential and commercial power demand control and simulation models; energy saving in metro-transit systems. Reliability and Quality in railway and metro-transit systems, with reference to electrical substations; telecommunications for high speed railway lines; command and control system of electrical devices at Roma Termini railway station. Smart grid. In this field, one of five coordinators of the SIRRCE project (2,2 million of total cost, project leader, BTicino) wich target was to develop a system for a functional use of energy in residential and tertiary sector. Author or co-author of over 150 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals or in proceedings of international conferences.
