Alberto Oliverio è professore emerito di psicobiologia nell'Università di Roma “La Sapienza” dove fa parte del Centro di Neurobiologia. Ha lavorato in numerosi istituti di ricerca internazionali tra cui il Karolinska di Stoccolma, Il Brain Research Institute dell’UCLA a Los Angeles, il Jackson Laboratory nel Maine, il Center for Neurobiology of Learning and Memory dell’Università di California a Irvine. Dal 1976 al 2002 ha diretto l'Istituto di Psicobiologia e Psicofarmacologia del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche
Fa parte del comitato editoriale di diverse riviste scientifiche, ha organizzato e partecipato a numerosi congressi nel campo delle neuroscienze e della biologia del comportamento e, più in generale, dei rapporti tra scienza e società.
E' autore di oltre 400 pubblicazioni scientifiche, di saggi professionali, didattici e di divulgazione tra cui i più recenti sono Biologia e filosofia della mente (Laterza 1995, 1999), L’arte di ricordare (Rizzoli 1998) Esplorare la mente (Raffaello Cortina, 1999), Prima lezione di neuroscienze (Laterza, 2002 e 2008). Gli ultimi saggi riguardano i rapporti tra comportamento e strutture cerebrali (Geografia della mente, Raffaello Cortina, Milano, 2008), i rapporti tra cervello e inconscio (La vita nascosta del cervello, Giunti, 2009) e quelli tra cervello e mente (Cervello, Bollati Boringhieri 2011) Il suo ultimo saggio è intitolato Immaginazione e memoria, Mondadori Università, 2013).Dr. ALBERTO OLIVERIO

1963-64 Research Fellow, Italian Institute of Health, Rome. Activity related to noradrenergic neurotransmitters and noradrenaline turnover.
1964-65 Research Fellow, Department of Physiology, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. Studies on noradrenaline turnover in relation to increased nervous activity (with. U.S. von Euler).
1965-67 Assistant Research Pharmacologist, UCLA School of Medicine and Brain Research Institute, Los Angeles, CA. Research project on behavior genetics and psychopharmacogenetics. Studies on learning and memory in inbred mice (With D. Bovet and J.L. McGaugh).
1967-70 Research Pharmacologist, University of Sassari, Italy. Research associate to a program on psychobiology and psychopharmacology. Studies on behavior genetics and cholinergic mechanisms involved in memory processes.

Teaching activities. From 1975 to 2011cfull professor of Psychobiology to undergraduate students of biological and natural sciences. Professor to post-graduate students of neurobiology.
Present research fields. Neurochemical/neurophysiological correlates of memory. Genetic approaches to behavior.
