This course is designed for the intermediate level (B1) students of the Department of Biotechnology. According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the B1 Level refers to independent users of the language.
B1 level students:
• Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
• Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
• Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
• Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
The aim of this course is to help students develop their language skills to be able to start to function effectively in a variety of written and spoken contexts in English. This is achieved through intensive language support based on grammar, vocabulary, and skills work as well as the use of theme-based and online learning materials.
Basic grammar rules and structures will be studied during the 10-week course length:
• Present Simple and continuous, action and non-action verbs
• Future Forms: present continuous, be going to, will/won’t
• Present Perfect and Past Simple (For/since)
• Past Tenses (Simple, Continuous, Perfect)
• Comparatives and Superlatives
• Articles ( a/an, the, no article)
• Modals
• Passive (All Tenses)
• Conditionals
Materials: Materials will be provided by the instructor each week in the form of pdfs, powerpoint presentations, and online materials.
